• Have you been diagnosed with dementia?
• Do you provide care for someone with dementia?
• Do you want to know what you can do to donate and support families impacted by dementia?

Dementia describes a collection of symptoms that are caused by disorders affecting the brain. It may surprise you to learn that dementia is not one specific disease, but is an umbrella term that covers a number of neurological conditions. Dementia affects thinking, behaviour and the ability to perform everyday tasks. Brain function is affected enough to interfere with the person’s normal social or working life.

Dementia Australia is the peak body in Australia to support and empower the estimated half a million Australians living with dementia and almost 1.6 million people involved in their care.

Some of the services provided by Dementia Australia include: • The National Dementia Helpline, which can be reached by calling 1800 100 500
• Professional counselling for those with dementia and their carers. This can be arranged by calling 1800 100 500.
• Post diagnostic support for those with dementia. A skilled Dementia Australia staff member will be your single point of contact over six sessions. They work with you to understand your specific situation and provide information and support based on what is most important to you. Again, this service can be accessed by calling 1800 100 500.
