Anzac Day Services going ahead

We Remember the Fallen

Lest we forget: Anzac Day is an important time to remember the service of the fallen and survivors of conflict and peacekeeping missions.

There will be two Anzac Day commemorative Services despite a raft of changes due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The Dawn Service will be held from 6am, with the main Service at 11am at the Yass Cenotaph, outside the Memorial Hall.

There will be no Gunfire breakfast, march or ANZAC Day Luncheon due to the latest COVID-19 safety advice.

A COVID-19 safety plan is in place and registered with NSW Police and Service NSW.

John Cockburn is the Guest of Honour and will be arriving in a WWII Jeep. It is planned that the services will be broadcast by Yass FM and that they will be distributed on Zoom for those unable to come along.

Watch the Zoom coverage with the Meeting ID is 843 9953 2971, and password YASSRSL.

The Bowning Dawn Service will take place at the war memorial (at the rear of the Bowning Hall) at 5:45am on Sunday.

Anzac Day was first observed on 25 April 1916 as people came together to honour those lost at Gallipoli. As more and more commemorative events were held in Australia, Anzac Day became a public holiday in every state and territory by the late 1920s.

It’s now a time to honour Australians and New Zealanders who served and died in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
