Dr Kerry Chant, the NSW Chief Medical Adviser, has issued a new video saying that like other states in Australia, NSW is now experiencing the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.

This week has seen an increase in cases and increases of people admitted to hospital with the virus.

Testing has demonstrated variants that are prevalent in this wave are the BA2.75 sub-variant and other variants such as XBB and BQ1.

Dr Chant says that while it is no longer mandatory to self-isolate if you test positive to COVID-19, it is recommended you stay home and take steps to protect others.

If you test positive on a rapid antigen test (RAT) please register this with Service NSW. Voluntarily registering your result can help you access medical support from NSW Health, including antiviral medicines if you are eligible.

Please stay up-to-date with your immunisations, and if you are at all unsure about where you are up to, make an appointment to see your GP.

You can also talk to your GP about making a COVID-19 plan that includes the type of test your GP recommends you take if you start to feel unwell and the anti-virals you can take should you contract the virus.
