The 99th Annual State Conference of the Country Women’s Association (CWA) of NSW is currently underway. The conference concludes on Thursday 6th May 2021, and is being held in Bega.

COVID-19 meant the 2020 Conference was cancelled, and this year 400 delegates, around half the number in previous years, are participating. The Yass delegate this year is Yass CWA President, Brenda Phillips. Fortunately, for the first time in the history of the event, members unable to attend have been able to view the conference via a livestream link.

A list of 26 motions have been brought to the Conference by branches across the State, including:
• The use of wool insulation products for NSW public building and housing (Wagga branch)
• Lobbying the NSW Government for additional funding for rural and remote Local Health Districts (Wagga branch)
• Climate change (Bangalow branch)
• Aged care (Jerilderie branch).

The President of CWA NSW, Stephanie Stanhope, said “The range of motions, across so many different areas, reflects the diversity of our membership and the issues of concern to their communities. The CWA of NSW takes its advocacy role very seriously and once motions are formally endorsed by the membership, they will become part of our lobbying platform for the next 12 months.

“There are some interesting motions this year that will no doubt inspire some robust debate, but that is one of the strengths of our association: all points of view are welcome and can be discussed openly and honestly.”

Stay tuned for more on the outcomes of the Conference next week.
