Dog Friendly Holiday Accommodation
Dog Friendly Holiday Accommodation
For many years now, the “Holidaying With Dogs” publication (and website) has informed dog owners about Australia-wide accommodation options suitable for humans and their dogs. This invaluable resource needs to be supplemented by your knowledge of your dog and its unique requirements. For example:
- If you have a puppy who has not yet learned to come when called, then consider a securely gated accommodation option to prevent them running away.
- If you have an older dog with arthritis or similar, ensure your accommodation does not contain stairs.
- If your dog has incontinence problems, understand that you may be getting up several times a night to take your dog outside: dog-friendly accommodation options rarely have “dog flaps” to allow your dog easy access to the unit/garden.
Other great tips include:
- If holidaying at the coast, make sure there are beaches nearby that allow entry to dogs.
- Never leave your dog in your accommodation while you and your family enjoy an outing: holiday with dogs means taking them with you wherever you go.
- Finally, be a great guest and fellow traveller – always pick up after your dog and dispose of their waste.
