Are you old enough to remember the Gidget movies of the late 50s and 60s? They were all about a young teenage girl and her surfing friends on the beach in Malibu.
Gidget also happens to be the nickname of a vibrant young Australian mother who tragically took her own life while experiencing unrecognised postnatal depression. Together, her loving family and friends created Gidget Foundation Australia determined that what happened to Gidget would not happen to others.
Throughout November, December, and January, the Gidget Foundation Australia is inviting people to come together, connect and host an event, or bake at home, in support of the foundation.
These past two years have been challenging for many, including families who are trying to conceive or are welcoming a baby into the world, or those experiencing grief and loss. Gidget has seen an 80 per cent increase in people accessing their services.
Through the “Baking a Difference” campaign, the Gidget Foundation Australia hopes to encourage the community to reconnect and fundraise through baking. For information about how to participate, click here: https://fundraise.gidgetfoundation.org.au/event/bun-in-the-oven/home
