Lets Celebrate Our Volunteers

Last week was National Volunteer Week, with the theme of Recognise, Reconnect, Reimagine. To celebrate the countless volunteers that make the Yass Valley hum, we are all encouraged to get behind the 2021 NSW Volunteer of the Year Awards, with nominations now open.

Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman said volunteers have been the backbone of our community, particularly since the advent of COVID-19 and have dedicated countless hours to support individuals and community groups right across the region. “From our local sporting groups to our environmental and community groups, our volunteers are the hands that keep our community ticking and contribute in so many ways,” Mrs Tuckerman said.

“When times get tough, we see our volunteers shine, they don’t hesitate to get out there and support one another. We can’t underestimate the difference volunteering makes.” Mrs Tuckerman said.

Last year more than more than 118,000 volunteers were recognised from across the State with nominations now open across eight categories, including:

  • Adult Volunteer of the Year
  • Young Volunteer of the Year
  • Senior Volunteer of the Year
  • Volunteer Team of the Year
  • Corporate Volunteer of the Year (Individual)
  • Corporate Volunteer of the Year (Team)
  • Club Volunteer of the Year
  • Excellence in Volunteer Management.

The CEO of the Centre for Volunteering, Gemma Rygate, said the awards were a way to thank, recognise and celebrate the efforts of the state’s 2.4 million volunteers.

Nominations close on Friday, 9th July 2021. For more information, visit the website: https://www.volunteering.com.au/volunteer-awards/
