Suzanne Hehir is part of a team of ladies who run Murrumbateman’s “Craft, Cuppa, and Chat” event, which is held each Wednesday from 9:30am to 12 noon at the Hall next to the Murrumbateman Pub. Morning tea is provided, and the Hall is kept warm and snug on cold days thanks to two heaters.
How long have you lived in Murrumbateman?
I’ve lived here for 29 years, having moved from Canberra. We wanted to get out of the rat race, plus we had an energetic little boy and wanted him to be able to have the freedom to run around. We consider ourselves semi-rural because we bought three acres here.
What do you love about Murrumbateman?
I love the peace and quiet and the people.
What has living in Murrumbateman enabled you to do?
Well, my husband joined the Rural Fire Brigade, Lions, and helped build the Men’s Shed. The Men’s Shed is very important to men because when they retire from work, they can be left twiddling their thumbs. Men gather there to make things and to form friendships. There’s a man there who makes rocking horses, and another makes beautiful salt and pepper shakers. They also fix broken furniture, like chairs and the like. Other men go there to play cards and just have a yarn. As for me, I love “Craft, Cuppa, and Chat”, and I also go down to the bakery on Friday mornings to have morning tea with friends.
