Yass FM volunteer presenter Kath Kovac is starting a new radio program just for women from Tuesday 8th June.
Kath wants to give the women and girls of Yass Valley a forum to share anything that is on their minds, or any issues that affect them. “I’ve called my show ‘Women Rising’, with the subtitle ‘Nothing is Taboo’,” said Kath, who is a freelance science editor living in Dalton.
“There are too many topics that women don’t feel comfortable discussing in public, with their doctor or even with their friends, because of society’s taboos on these topics. This can lead to poor health outcomes, both physically and mentally. Many girls and women don’t even know the correct names for their body parts, which makes talking to the doctor difficult,” Kath explained.
“If women are given a chance to ask questions about anything, and share their experiences honestly, they can realise that every woman goes through the same things – and that they are as ‘normal’ as everyone else.
“On my show women can call in anonymously to share their views or ask about anything at all. And I mean anything!
“I’ll have women experts in different fields and complementary health practitioners come on to the show for interviews and to answer questions, and to stimulate discussion around all these topics and more,” Kath said.
Tune in to Women Rising from 3pm-5pm every Tuesday afternoon during the school term on YassFM 100.3 or stream live online. Call the station during the show on 62265266 while music is playing to share your views or ask a question.
