Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day

This Thursday marks 103 years since the end of The Great War (World War 1) in 1918.

Originally called “Armistice Day”, Remembrance Day was first commemorated in Yass on Tuesday 11th November 1919. The Yass Evening Tribune writes about the event thus, “Yass was gaily beflagged. There was an official ceremony, but work ceased for a brief period at 11 a.m. in compliance with the King’s request”.

King George V’s request has been honoured each year since, with one minute’s silence given as a mark of respect to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

If you are able, please come along to Yass’s Remembrance Day service outside the Yass Memorial Hall on Thursday, 11th November at 11am.

Lest We Forget.
