There wouldn’t be many people who know what the word “riparian” means. Turns out it refers to the interface between land and a river or stream.
Last week it was announced that thanks to the NSW Government’s $2.4 million Riparian Restoration Program the following funds will be expended in the Goulburn electorate:
- $25,550 will go towards Yass Urban Landcare Inc who are restoring the riparian corridor on Manton’s Creek through weed control and revegetation of damaged riparian area.
- $39,423 was awarded to the Hovell’s Creek riparian restoration project for fencing, seeding and planting works.
- $16,000 will go towards Upper Shoalhaven Landcare Group for Budjong Creek Erosion Control in Windellama which will enable minor erosion control works and revegetation.
The Member for Goulburn, Wendy Tuckerman, said, “I would like to congratulate these groups on their successful project application and I thank them for their contribution to our community.
“Restoring riparian areas can lead to improved water quality and stabilise banks to reduce further erosion and provide a better habitat for wildlife,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
The program is being run by Local Land Services with the projects being delivered by Landcare and other natural resource management groups. Works are expected to be complete by September 2023.
